Ecuador El Arenal Microlot
Our latest Direct Trade project features a TUSA x XELA collaboration from the exotic Ecuador.
Finca El Arenal is a single farm micro-lot from the town of Nuevos Horizontes in the region of Zamora-Chinchipe, Ecuador. The lot is produced by Vicente Gaona & his family.
All varietals of coffee at Arenal are picked at individual optimal maturation, allowing full development of sugars and density. The cherries are then carefully fermented for approximately 18 hours and washed. Vicente then utilizes a very controlled drying process using solar dryers.
With the beneficial climatic conditions, fertile soil, combination of varietals and care the Gaona family has produced an all-star coffee with ranges of unique flavors and exotic fruit forward tones.
Finca El Arenal has an intense sweetness, a range of tropical fruit tones including kiwi, a rounded yet pronounced acidity and a soft floral finish that lingers pleasantly.
XELA is roasting El Arenal to an early-medium roast level. The main focus for the roast profile was to highlight the fragrant fruit tones and deep sweet sugars, allowing the roast to appear light without sacrificing intensity & mouthfeel.
